This class is primarily designed for students working on NCEA art portfolios and is based on an exploration of artist models and key themes and movements from Art History. You do not have to be a great artist to join this class, you just need to have an interest in art. Any student interested in exploring questions like “what makes a work of art great?”, “who are some of the most important artists throughout history?”, or “what is my personal response to a piece of art?” are encouraged to join. NCEA level 2 and 3 assessments can be negotiated for students working at that level of the curriculum. Possible topics to explore include the evolution of street art, architectural styles through history, The Great Works of art, specific art movements (like Art Nouveau, Modernism, Impressionism, Pop Art, etc) or specific artists. Topics covered will be negotiated once the class is formed.
