Description

Our home is an island in the largest ocean in the world: Te Moananui a Kiwa, the Pacific Ocean, but what do you know about the ocean environment?

https://www.fawco.org/global-issues/environment/environment-articles/4590-ocean-currents-and-climate

In this course, we will answer the following questions.

  • What is your connection to the ocean?
  • What processes drive the ocean currents, the weather and our climate?
  • Why do some things float and others sink?
  • Who lives in the ocean and on the shore and what processes connect these plants and animals?
  • How do humans interact with the ocean? Think fishing, kaimoana, other resources and climate change.
  • How can we be better kaitiaki of the moana?

Notes:

  1. Students will need an exercise book and pen/pencil or a digital device to write in/on.
  2. I'm hoping to organise a 'rocky shore' trip in week seven, parent help required:).
  3. A digital device will be helpful for research and other class activities.
