Description

This course offers senior students the opportunity to work with climate and sustainability experts, not only to achieve NCEA credits, but to make connections with, and be involved in, the climate action community of Ōtautahi. If you select this course you will spend one morning a week at the CAC engaging in a range of exciting practical activities (art/composting/growing kai/habitat creation) and academic learning. You will have the opportunity to engage with local experts at the forefront of environmental research and climate awareness. Some examples of experts lined up for term one include Hinerangi (Orion's Community Energy Lead), Gwen (expert in Regenerative Agriculture) and Daniel (water and climate change researcher). The course is designed to run across all four terms but students have the option to opt in and out at any stage throughout the year.

The course outline looks like this:

Term One: Intro to campus and each other. Meet the experts- 7 weeks of experts (eg. experts in solar energy/public transport/climate research/ climate justice etc). Optional 4 NCEA credits and opportunity to run a stall at the Harvest Market at the CAC in early March.

Term Two: Research an area of interest based around climate action/justice. In addition, get involved in practical activities around the CAC

Term Three: Carry out an action based around climate action/justice.

Term Four: Tidy up and complete any outstanding credits. Work experience (only students who have undertaken the course in a previous term will be able to select it in term four).
