Hapori

A Hapori course is a non-curricular focused learning experience driven by student passion. Rooted in the concept of "hapori" or community, these courses empower students to explore diverse topics outside the traditional curriculum, fostering collaboration and a sense of ownership over their learning. With a focus on self-directed exploration, Hapori courses encourage students to pursue their interests, ranging from creative arts to technology and social issues. This initiative reflects our commitment to cultivating well-rounded individuals who are not only academically proficient but also deeply connected to their passions and the broader community.

Description

Run, Jump, Throw - Speed, Power, Technique - Athletics / Olympic Weightlifting / Fitness

The goal of this Hapori is to provide the individual with a range of opportunities in the pursuit of developing personal performance in a range of athletics events.

It is an Olympic year and the use of the Olympic Motto felt right as part of the title and this Hapori of athletics and weightlifting focus.

We will use our longer two-hour colour block to explore the technical aspects of the athletics events like sprinting, hurdles, shot put, discus, javelin, hammer, long jump, and high jump.

We will also work towards being stronger and generating power production by developing our skills in Olympic Weightlifting and the movements of the clean and jerk and the snatch.

Let us test our fitness levels and push our mental capabilities with the challenges set. There will personal focus on technical development when our frustration is pushed due to failure but with expert guidance and technical assistance you will improve.

We will be off-site on our longer block. We will walk to Hagley Park and collectively carry the equipment. Please make sure you are ready with suitable footwear and training attire.
