Hapori

A Hapori course is a non-curricular focused learning experience driven by student passion. Rooted in the concept of "hapori" or community, these courses empower students to explore diverse topics outside the traditional curriculum, fostering collaboration and a sense of ownership over their learning. With a focus on self-directed exploration, Hapori courses encourage students to pursue their interests, ranging from creative arts to technology and social issues. This initiative reflects our commitment to cultivating well-rounded individuals who are not only academically proficient but also deeply connected to their passions and the broader community.

Description

Confirmation bias? Gambler's fallacy? Salience? Ad hominem?

These are things called cognitive biases, and they're fascinating, as they impact our ability to see the world rationally. In this course, we'll explore the world of cognitive biases through different lenses, and reflect on how they manifest in different situations - and observe how we can find concentrated versions of these weird behaviours in social deduction games.

In our activities, you can expect to learn a bit about:
- cognitive biases (and how to spot and resist them!)
- how to sniff out nonsense when someone is talking
- how to sneak nonsense in, when you are talking

There will be a strict no devices rule in this class - we just won't need them! We'll even go as far as to put all of our devices on an allocated device table at the beginning of each session.

Please come along with a willingness to work together and converse with your peers! You'll be expected to participate in the discussions/activities that we do - but be forewarned: this is a highly social, engaged class: if you have no real interest in talking to people, you'll struggle.
