Description

This term, we'll continue our study of The Long Walk by Stephen King. Alongside this novelstudy, students can expect to read related interesting things, discuss tangential topics that challenge them, and engage in cool activities that combine a range of skills (reading, writing, use of digital software and art).

There will be the opportunity for students to sit ENG 1.1 (Demonstrate understanding of how context shapes verbal language use) after we've finished the novel study and all students in the class will be encouraged to do so. If you are hoping to join the class at the start of Term 2, please see Beth - we will be mostly finished with a novel, and your ability to engage with the assessment will be very difficult if you haven't participated in the prior learning.

As this is a senior class, there is emphasis on NCEA, and the environment of the class will be one that supports that. This means that you will need to manage yourself around device use, and that there will be high expectations in terms of engaging with class discussion.

I recommend that you are prepared with a device of your own (either your own one, or one that you've borrowed from the office before each session) as we will be making use of these as we progress with the class activities, and when we are completing the first assessment.
