There are possibly a thousand times more bacteria in your gut than there are stars in our galaxy - that is a LOT, in case you didn't realise! They can influence your mood, make you sick, potentially kill you, but without them you would almost certainly be dead within weeks...

This course will examine the science of life on a microscopic scale - what are bacteria, fungi, archaea and viruses? How do we interact with and even use them in our everyday life? How do diseases spread? How can microbes cause cancer? How can we fight them - and is it a battle that we can ever 'win'?
