Description

MĀTAURANGA NGAHERE (Forest of Knowledge) nature-based education, hands-on experiences, and community collaboration to provide a holistic and immersive learning journey. Rooted in the principles of kaitiakitanga (looking after) and community engagement, this  programme aims to nurture well-being, academic engagement, and personal growth while fostering a deep connection with the environment.

Students will be able to work alongside CITY CARE specialists and CCC Park Rangers: This is a wonderful opportunity for you to learn new skills , develop expertise and work alongside professionals in the community.

Students will work alongside CityCare and CCC Park Rangers to plan, develop and Build a PARK at Climate Action Campus. In Term One we completed a scope of the area, planned our park and started clearing the area.

Our park will include:

  •  a native rongoā - Māori medicinal garden

  • a bike track with jumps

  • a walking trail

  • treehouses and platforms

  • picnic seating and planter boxes

  • a hydro-electric power plant simulator!

  • an educational playground with cool equipment e.g. a solar powered Hamster Wheel, kinetic energy for lighting

Students can decide! Plan, create and build your own project with the guidance and support of CCC Park Rangers and City Care.

CITY CARE will also provide expertise, and information on their training and apprenticeship programmes from engineers, project managers, quantity surveyors, tradies, traffic management, labourers, plant operators, and administrative roles throughout the country.

This would suit the following students:

  • interested in sustainability and driving projects

  • future leaders and problem solvers

  • interested in working in the outdoors

  • hands-on learners - future Engineers, Tradies, Project Managers

  • would like to experience working alongside experts in their field and be able to learn how to use their equipment/tools of the trade

  • would like to be at CAC on Friday mornings

Students have the opportunity to gain credits towards the City Care Apprenticeship Programme and NCEA Unit Standards. Tuesday we will be at school and on Friday mornings we will be at the Climate Action Campus.

This term we will be working with the Carpentry Team from City Care to build our projects.
