This term, we'll start work towards an NCEA external. This is a writing exam and all students in the class will be encouraged to participate. The prior learning for this will have been completed in Term 2. After this has been completed, we'll get started with the film component of the course.
We'll kick this off with the study of some short films, before we sample a bunch of films to choose which film we'll study as a class. Alongside this film study, students can expect to read related interesting things, discuss tangential topics that challenge them, and engage in cool activities that combine a range of skills (reading, writing, use of digital software and art).
There will be the opportunity for students to sit ENG 1.2 (Demonstrate understanding of specific aspects of studied text) after we've finished the film study and all students in the class will be encouraged to do so.
As this is a senior class, there is emphasis on NCEA, and the environment of the class will be one that supports that. This means that you will need to manage yourself around device use, and that there will be high expectations in terms of engaging with class discussion.
I recommend that you are prepared with a device of your own (either your own one, or one that you've borrowed from the office before each session) as we will be making use of these as we progress with the class activities, and when we are completing the first assessment.
