Description

Welcome to Artsy English.

See course overview for how this course could be a combination English Art course, an English-heavy course or an Art-heavy course.

This term, we'll begin our film study for the year. This will involve sampling a bunch of films at the beginning of the term, to decide which one we study in full. Alongside an in-depth film study, you can expect to engage in other supplementary activities that complement our exploration of ideas within the text. This could take the form of creating things using digital tools and discussions about how to connect the novel to our world.

Students have the opportunities through this class to engage in assessments at Levels 2 and 3 of NCEA in English. Though most assessments at these levels are on offer, students often choose to work on a combination of these options:

  • English 2.6 - Create a visual text (3 credits)
  • English 2.7 - Connections across texts (4 credits)
  • English 2.4 - Writing folio (6 credits)
  • Visual Arts 2.3 - Approach to design briefs (4 credits)

Other English assessments are also on offer, but will require a chat with Beth - I'm able to support you with what you'd like to do, but you should be familiar with the assessment criteria, and have some ideas of your own to get you started. Here is a list of the L2 English standards.

This class will require attention, a keen work ethic and the willingness and patience to engage in large projects. If you simply must be on Tik Tok and taking selfies, this isn't the class for you!
