Description

Human rights continue to be threatened globally and closer to home. We, the public, play a crucial role in ensuring these rights are defended. During this course we will use past and current case studies of human rights abuses to understand what human rights are, how people seek to defend theirs and others’ rights, and what action we can take if we choose. Our skills focus is research and formal writing, and we'll try to fit in a debate or two.

You can choose our case studies, which could include:

  • Child soldiers

  • The Rainbow community

  • Racial discrimination (historic and current)

  • Human rights in our school and community

You will need a device as we do a lot of online research and tasks in this class.

You will be assessed on your participation in class activities and an individual essay or report on a human rights defender or campaign of your choice.
