Description

Ecology is the study of organisms and how they interact with other organisms and the physical enviornment around them. In the first part of the term we will learn some ecological concepts and then use this information to study the changes in species composition on a rocky shore as we move from the low tide mark to the high tide mark. This will require a field trip to Taylors mistake in week 4 to do some population sampling. This will culminate in a report which will be the assessment for a 4 credit internal "Investigate a pattern in an ecological community, with supervision. AS91158.

In the second part of the term we will start to look at the basic building blocks of life ... cells. What's in them? How do they carry out the processes that are essential to life? We will look at respiration, photoshynthesis, mitosis, DNA replication and more! This topic will cover all of the learnng required for the 4 credit external "Demonstrate understanding of life processes at the cellular level. AS91156."
