Hapori
A Hapori course is a non-curricular focused learning experience driven by student passion. Rooted in the concept of "hapori" or community, these courses empower students to explore diverse topics outside the traditional curriculum, fostering collaboration and a sense of ownership over their learning. With a focus on self-directed exploration, Hapori courses encourage students to pursue their interests, ranging from creative arts to technology and social issues. This initiative reflects our commitment to cultivating well-rounded individuals who are not only academically proficient but also deeply connected to their passions and the broader community.
This term, we only have three sessions at the Climate Action Campus. If you started a project in a previous term, this is the time to finish it. If you have never been to the CAC, this is your chance to "taste" some of the experiences and activities on offer.
On Tuesday mornings, we travel to the Climate Action Campus for the double period in blue. There are only eleven places in the school van, so we really encourage you to make your own way to the CAC with your caregivers or with the public bus. There is a group of seniors who take the public bus, and you could travel with them.
Over the three weeks you will get a chance to try out a few of the following activities, or you can come up with your own climate action.
- Composting;
- Riding and looking after a bike;
- Growing and harvesting food;
- Cooking from the garden;
- Repairing clothing and sewing;
- Monitoring and trapping pest animals;
- Creating signage; and
- Working on your own project.
On Thursday afternoons at school, we’ll inquire into climate and sustainability topics and plan for Tuesdays.
Notes:
- Open to anyone in years 7-13;
- No device required;
- We need parent helps at the CAC and to transport; and
- We may need to restrict numbers due to transport.
