Overview:
This 6-week literacy course is designed to enhance students' reading, writing, and comprehension skills with a focus on the essential building blocks of written expression—poetry, paragraphs, and punctuation. Through engaging activities, creative writing exercises, and critical reading, students will explore the beauty of language, practice crafting coherent paragraphs, and master the rules of punctuation to improve clarity and style in their writing.

Course Objectives:

  • Understand the structure and form of poetry, and use it as a tool for creative expression.
  • Learn how to develop and organise ideas into clear, well-structured paragraphs.
  • Master the use of punctuation for clarity, rhythm, and emphasis in both creative and formal writing.
  • Improve reading comprehension and critical thinking through analysis of poetry and prose.
  • Build confidence in writing.

Outcome:
By the end of this course, students will have developed a deeper understanding of poetry, improved their ability to organise thoughts into structured paragraphs, and gained confidence in using punctuation to enhance their writing. They will leave the course with a short portfolio of creative and poetic written pieces.
