This class is designed for student who already have some experience with clay.
Overview:
In this hands-on, 3-day (9 hour) clay class, students will explore the world of ceramics by creating three functional pieces: a cup, a bowl, and a small jug. Using different types of clay and learning essential hand-building techniques, students will shape, mould, and glaze their works, gaining a deeper understanding of ceramic art. Each session will focus on a specific piece, allowing students to experiment with form, texture, and glazing techniques.
Course Objectives:
Learn basic hand-building techniques,
mainly pinch and slab methods.
- Explore different types of clay and their properties.
- Create functional ceramic pieces: a cup, a bowl, and a small jug.
- Experiment with surface decoration and texturing.
- Apply glaze techniques to create unique, finished ceramic pieces.
- Understand the firing process and how it transforms clay and glaze.
Outcome:
By the end of this class, students will have created three unique ceramic pieces: a cup, a bowl, and a small jug. They will gain hands-on experience with clay, develop an understanding of glazing, and take home beautifully finished, functional works of art.
