Description

This course is a continuation of the Climate NCEA Course that ran for the first time at the CAC in 2024. Open to all students who feel ready to tackle Level 3 NCEA Credits, it doesn't matter what year level you are.

Here is an overview of what we plan to cover in Term 1. Please bare in mind that it is fluid and flexible- we will make changes as needed based on students interests and the availability of local experts to come and meet with us.

  • Meet some local sustainability experts. What they do and why. Small business owners, artists, academics.
  • Listen to Catherine's People, Planet, Food Podcast Episode and consider what you can do to live more sustainably.
  • Field trip- Observe how organic food is grown commercially.
  • Education for Sustainability 3.1 Evaluate a personal action that contributes towards a sustainable future. Level 3 6 Credits (options including collecting Native seeds, reusing/recycling such as making crisp packets into emergency blankets, creating and selling reusable bags/beeswax wraps/soap etc ect)
  • Level 3 Communication Skills 1307 Speak to a known audience in a predictable situation (Students would each give a 5-10 min presentation about the personal action they have undertaken that contributes towards a sustainable future).

This will be running as a full year course, however students will be able to sign up on a term by term basis. If you would like to see a draft overview for the whole year, you can view it here on this doc https://docs.google.com/document/d/1ikGPDWiA1HpwxzQ7bcpcLww-k_gKWufmlrIqAXcdN3E/edit?tab=t.0
