Description

Our city has an increasingly diverse population.  Who are we all, how did we get here, and what is "here"? To understand where I stand, I need to understand who and what has come before. What do we know of the people, the land, and the history of where we stand?    To unravel this we will be:

  • looking at where you and your families come from;
  • exploring what the Ōtautahi/Christchurch environment used to be like (e.g. Putaringa-motu/Riccarton Bush or the Botanic Gardens);
  • listening to and reading stories, pūrākau, and historical evidence about our place;
  • creating digital story maps of our city using FELT or Google MyMaps;
  • asking friends, whānau and neighbours to draw mental maps so we can find out what people's different perspectives on Ōtautahi/Christchurch are;
  • examining population statistics for our city to see who is here and how our "face" is changing; and
  • developing research questions and undertaking your own inquiry on a culture of your choice.

You will need:

  1. access to a digital device (let me know if you don't have one and I can book one for you);
  2. something to write with and on (any type of exercise book will do)
