Description

Haere mai and welcome to Toitū te Taiao | Sustainability 2025.

We start the course with some key understandings of the subject area, move on to an ecosystem study and finish with an assessment.

  1. Define and discuss sustainability, and kaitiakitanga.  Examine systems and future thinking as ways of understanding and caring for Earth. Find out where your environmental and social justice interests lie.
  2. Investigate a beach, river or forest ecosystem; identify the plants and animals present, look at the connections between the living and non-living environment; investigate the human impact; and recommend how it should be looked after in the future.

This course involves a day field trip.

  1. Please check out the Course Overview for more information on this subject area, the assessments on offer, and the plan for the year.

  2. Term one is very much "LA-led" to provide a good understanding of the subject area.  However, later terms will be more student-led.
