Description

Human groups have been fighting each other for centuries, and they still do.  Here in Aotearoa | New Zealand, we have fought plenty of battles.  We have also travelled overseas to fight for others, or for an idea.   In this course, we use several case studies to look at how and why people go to war, and the ways in which this has (and hasn't) changed over time.  We also look at why we remember some wars, and some heroes, but not others.

Our case studies: NZ Wars, WW1 &/or WW2, & Vietnam.

Expect the following.

  • An LA-led course with the opportunity to research a war of your choice.

  • To use the Monday double class for some trips out of the classroom.  We could visit the Wigram Airforce Museum, the Addington Jail, war memorials around town...

  • To use your reading, writing, thinking, creative, and research skills.

  • To complete a piece of work showing your response to the topic of war and conflict.  This could be a presentation, an essay, a piece of art, a model, an infographic, ...

You will need a device for this course as we do a lot of online research.  If you don't have one of your own, you can borrow one from the front desk.  You'll also need an exercise book and a pen or pencil.
