Grand Designs Project
This class will require ākonga to develop design ideas for the exterior and interior of a new building to be situated in the empty lot next to school on Colombo St. Students are required to
- identify a need and requirement for the building, as well as
- Research similar existing buildings.
- explore the impact that the building may have on neighbours (us),
- explore environmental considerations.
Possible options are Cafe, Bakery, Florist, hairdresser/barber, clothing and sporting shops, boring office space, medical centre or social housing.
Akonga will then develop ideas and produce a conceptual design and will be taught to use CAD software (Archicad 28) to produce plans and final design renders, and possibly 3D printed or laser cut models of the final design. A computer with more capability than a chromebook is needed to install this software program.
