In this course, we'll continue to explore various texts and develop skills related to both Media Studies and English. We're halfway through studying a class-selected novel at the start of term two (Project Hail Mary, by Andy Weir); this term, we'll try to finish off that novel study and explore some other short texts. If you're new to the class, you'll need to read/listen to half of the book before joining! If you don't, you'll just be lost for large chunks.
During our novel study, we'll have lots of discussions, and complete a range of activities related to design and film. You will:
- Analyze how authors craft compelling characters, build suspenseful plots, and create worlds that come alive.
- Learn how to translate stories from the page to the screen, exploring techniques like storyboarding, character design, and basic screenplay writing.
- Develop your digital drawing skills, learn to use cool software, and unleash your imagination to create stunning visuals.
Note: This course will give you a head start on future Media Studies assessments (the idea is that you'll be set up to do Media Studies as a L2 and L3 subject after completing this course), but depending on interest, there may be some L1 English assessments on offer as well.
