Description

Te Ngakau o te Kura | Heart of the School

We shall continue to put our cultural and historical narrative into our school again. What represents you and our local environment. Artworks designed by our students to last the next 20+ years. Students learn the tikanga (culture) behind it.  This opens up to other cultures as well to continue designing 'Legacy Artworks' for our school.

We will continue to learn to make our own:

  • Kōwhaiwhai/painted scroll ornamentation,
  • Tukutuku/Lattice,
  • Whakairo/Carving.
  • Grid art

In addition we will research:

  • Ngā Toi a Iwi/Tribal Arts
  • Māori Artists
  • Ngā Kararehe o Aotearoa/ NZ Animals

Study the artworks of New Zealand Artists and visiting galleries to inspire thoughtful artworks.  Visiting Marae to see other artworks.  Looking into the students own whakapapa and tribes.
