Description
You must be 13 years or older to take this class. In this course, you’ll study two films, Ex Machina, and The Truman Show, to explore ideas about identity, control, and what it means to be human. You’ll look at key scenes and learn how filmmakers use different techniques to create meaning. Through group discussions and writing tasks, you’ll practice thinking critically and explaining your ideas clearly. You’ll also explore how the issues in these films connect to real-life science and society. By the end of the course, you’ll have a better understanding of how films can make us think about big questions.
The course will prepare students for two key assessments:
- Analysis of a studied text – Understanding how aspects of text create engagement and viewpoints (English 1.3, 5 Credits).
- Creative or analytical writing – Developing connected and insightful ideas using appropriate stylistic and written conventions (English 1.2, 5 credits).
