... and doing something about it.
This year, we've looked war and conflict, Pacific history and issues, tax and crime. Within these topics, there are issues of power (who has it and who doesn't), perspective, and fairness. What's your view on these issues, and other social and environmental issues? In this course, you will work on your own or in a group to select an issue and be supported to take action on it. Issues could be homelessness, inequalities within the education/legal/health systems, climate change, discrimination, the status of te reo, poverty, drug addiction, food insecurity, and the list goes on.
Here are some ideas for actions achievable in the timeframe: education campaigns (posters, presentations, pamphlets, workshops) short films with a message, artworks, writing (poetry, stories, articles), volunteering, fundraisers, and the list goes on:)
Here is a rough plan.
- Week 1: define equity and social justice
- Week 2: choose and explore a social or environment issue of interest to you/your group
- Week 3: make a plan of action and start action
- Week 4: take action
- Week 5: take action and reflect
