Description

Listen to an epic tale and relax for 30 minutes. Then, think about how the story has been told and have a go at practicing some of writing conventions the author used to tell the story, to improve your own story writing and for fun.

Over five weeks, students will listen as their teacher reads a novel aloud, we discuss its story and themes, and complete creative and analytical writing activities. Each week introduces a key writing convention—simile, personification, metaphor, imagery, and symbolism—so students can see how authors use language for effect and experiment with these techniques in their own writing. Students will also compare the novel to its film adaptation and produce a final piece of writing inspired by the book.

This class is for students wanting to work and learn in a calm and quiet space. You will need a writing book and materials to write with. Students will be choosing the novel we study by voting on a few options.
