Description

Geography is the study of places, of te taiao | the environment.  We start our course by spending the first part of term one recapping basic geographic skills.  This will set you up for the rest of the year.  Think maps, statistics, photo interpretation and big geography ideas like "environment", "processes" and "perspectives."  We'll keep this fun by including examples from places all over the world.

Returning to the local level, we then move on to investigate an environment using our geographic skills.   This year, we will study the Waikirikiri | Selwyn River, south of Ōtautahi | Christchurch.    A day-long field trip to gather information is a compulsory part of the assessment.

Notes

  1.  The assessment for this term is likely to take the first couple of weeks of Term 2.
  2. L1 geography will help, but is not a pre-requisite for this course.  An interest in places and a curious mind is.
  3. For more information on this course, check out the L2 Course Overview under AKO|LEARN above.
  4. You will need a way of taking and keeping notes.
