This Specialist Digital Media Homebase runs through Red, Orange and Green blocks (as well as during homebase time every morning). If you're not currently in Richard and Beth's HB, please come and see us with your HBLA before selecting this option! We'll talk you through what's involved, and make sure you have a solid plan to follow through - but the nature of our HB is such that we won't provide you with a plan - you'll have one already set up through IEMs and 1-1s, and will complete it during this time.
Across the course of the year in homebase (sometimes in the morning, sometimes in a colour block) we will study films/novels/short stories/games that will provide you with cool material to base your projects on. We’ll have time dedicated to upskilling with software – learning the ins and outs of programmes like Photoshop, Illustrator and Premiere, as well as how to do stuff like create branding for a business, produce a film, make a graphic novel, design a creepy creature as a 3d model, and many more!
Term 1 will begin with a bunch of different skills/material to provide you with a context on which to base your projects. We'll read lots of short stories, get underway with some novel/novella studies, play some involved board games and take you through lots of little activities that teach you the basics of a few digital art/media skills. This may take the form of some photoshopping, some logo design, some screenplay writing, some short filming/editing, some 3D modelling (and many more). From here, you'll have lots of exposure to different flavours of project that might tickle your fancy.
The end goal is that you're able to pick a project and with our help, turn it into an year long mega plan that is specifically tailored to the kind of skills you want to use (art? media? english?) and the context you'd like to explore (D&D? Animation? Graphic novels? Branding for a business?). If you're a senior, this plan will incorporate progress towards your NCEA qualification. If you're a junior, this plan will introduce you to the skills necessary for you to complete future assessments in these subject areas.
