Description

In Term 1, we focus on who we are, where we come from, and how stories shape identity.

You’ll read a selection of short stories and poems from Aotearoa New Zealand and other parts of the world, exploring different voices, experiences, and perspectives. These texts may include contemporary youth writing, Māori and Pasifika voices, and texts that reflect diverse cultures and identities.

Alongside reading and discussion, you’ll experiment with your own creative and personal writing, learning how writers use language to express ideas, emotions, and experiences. You’ll try out techniques such as imagery, voice, and sentence control in low-pressure ways.

This term is about building confidence, routines, and a sense of belonging in English. There’s lots of support, time to practise, and opportunities to find and develop your voice as a reader, writer, and thinker.
