Description

In Term 3, we study the New Zealand film Boy, directed by Taika Waititi.

The film explores ideas such as identity, power, family, imagination, and growing up, and looks at how stories are shaped by who is telling them. We’ll examine how film techniques, such as camera angles, music, editing, and symbolism — influence how audiences see characters and events.

You’ll discuss the film, share interpretations, and respond through a range of options, which may include written responses, creative pieces, or multimodal work. You’ll also make connections between the film, earlier texts studied this year, and real-world issues.

This term suits students who:

  • enjoy film and visual storytelling
  • like discussing different viewpoints
  • are interested in media, culture, and representation
  • want flexible ways to show their thinking
