Description
This is a short, focused course where we turn our attention to real-world writing for real audiences.
You’ll work with non-fiction texts such as articles, opinion pieces, speeches, or essays, and explore how writers use language to inform, persuade, and influence. We’ll look at how ideas are shaped by audience, purpose, and context — and how writing connects to issues that matter in the world around us.
You’ll then create your own non-fiction piece linked to a topic or issue you care about. This might be an opinion article, feature piece, speech, blog post, or another purposeful form.
Because this is a five-week term, the focus is on:
- clarity of ideas
- effective communication
- completing and reflecting on your work
This term suits students who:
- like practical, real-world learning
- want to express opinions or ideas clearly
- enjoy writing with a purpose
- want a contained, achievable project to finish the year
