Description

Welcome to English for Artists. This course is an English course with an arty flavour, designed to develop English skills, while exploring visual language and design. During this course, we'll read things, watch things, discuss things and be creative. You can expect to design book covers, titles, logos, and pick apart environments and characters (not in a dissecty way) to analyse why and how authors and directors help create experiences in our minds, or on screen. We'll look at films/graphic novels with a clear artistic direction and maybe even try our hand at recreating some of these. Think English, but with lots of opportunity to be creative, and develop digital creative skills.

We'll kick off the year with an in-depth study of a novel, that we choose together as a class. This will involve elaborate discussions about concepts that we stumble upon in our reading, other tangential material that will be related to the things we discuss, and a variety of making/analysing activities.

If you've been in my classes, you'll know that I'm a big fan of discussions and sharing our thoughts and opinions so that our conversations can be valuable for everyone. Because of this, you'll be expected to talk to me and to your classmates! Sharing your thoughts on what we cover will mean you get lots out of this class, and it'll also prepare you for English classes as you get older (wiser) and wrinklier (more surface area).
