This course is designed for students of all levels of musical experience, from beginner to advanced.
This class will involve:
Listening to and discussing lots of music, in a wide range of styles
Listening to Matt's lectures and stories, and taking part in class discussions
Watching and responding to videos online
Singing and playing music, both independently and as part of a group.
Playing music-related games; both online and IRL.
We will be exploring how music works, the role of music in different societies and cultures and how to study and practice music to get good at playing or singing as quickly as possible.
You will need to bring:
paper (either a 1B4 exercise book, or refill and an A4 folder or clearfile) and pens,
and a device will be useful if you've got access to one.
It is also a good idea to bring your instrument if you play one, although some instruments will be provided.
A key aspect of music is performance, so be prepared to step out of your comfort zone and take some risks singing, playing and percussing in a supportive learning environment.
