Description

This course supports NCEA Levels 1–3 Visual Arts students who want to improve their art folios and complete internal and external standards. It can supplement another art class or provide an option if timetable clashes prevent taking orange or red block art classes.

Students explore art-making processes in greater depth, including tutorials in the Adobe Suite for design and photography, and may also use the darkroom for traditional photography. The course helps expand creative skills and improve NCEA results.

Course Content
Students work on long-term projects in areas such as drawing, painting, photography, design, printmaking, and sculpture. The course builds skills in research, idea development, and art techniques while preparing students for further study at Level 3 or tertiary level.

Students keep a workbook to record their research and ideas and use both traditional and contemporary artist models. After initial guidance, students develop their own theme and direction for their folio.

Assessment
Students typically complete one internal assessment per term and produce art portfolio panel at the end of the year, assessed externally. (2 panels level 2) (3 panels level 3)

Students who complete the course requirements can earn up to 22 NCEA credits.
