Description

In Term 2, students begin working on larger digital projects that apply the programming and problem-solving skills developed in Term 1.

Students who wish to work towards NCEA credits may attempt:

Create a computer program
(NCEA Level 1 Digital Technologies, AS 92004 - Internal, 5 credits)

In this assessment, students design and build a working computer program that solves a problem or performs a useful task. Examples might include a simple game, simulation, interactive tool, or data-based application.

Students will:

  • design a program to meet a specific purpose
  • develop the program using variables, conditions, and repetition
  • test and debug the program to ensure it works reliably
  • improve the program based on testing and feedback
  • explain how the program works and how it meets the intended purpose

Students who choose not to complete the NCEA assessment are welcome to work on approved personal projects instead. These projects allow students to explore their own interests in digital technologies while continuing to develop programming and design skills.

Possible projects may include:

  • building a basic game
  • creating a simulation or interactive tool
  • designing a small website or digital system
  • experimenting with new programming ideas or technologies

All projects must be discussed and approved. Personal projects must have a clear purpose, involve meaningful programming, and be achievable within the term.

The emphasis in this term is on developing ideas, solving problems, and building working digital outcomes. Students will continue to work at different levels of complexity, allowing beginners and more experienced programmers to progress at their own pace.
