Hapori
A Hapori course is a non-curricular focused learning experience driven by student passion. Rooted in the concept of "hapori" or community, these courses empower students to explore diverse topics outside the traditional curriculum, fostering collaboration and a sense of ownership over their learning. With a focus on self-directed exploration, Hapori courses encourage students to pursue their interests, ranging from creative arts to technology and social issues. This initiative reflects our commitment to cultivating well-rounded individuals who are not only academically proficient but also deeply connected to their passions and the broader community.
Level 4–5 Sewing – Costume Design for Musical Theatre
Bring the magic of the stage to life in this creative sewing course! In this class, you’ll help design and create costumes for the Ao Tawhiti production of Shrek The Musical. From fairy-tale creatures to larger-than-life characters, you’ll learn how costumes help transform actors and bring a story to life on stage.
You’ll develop practical sewing skills while learning how to design, cut, and construct costume pieces. Along the way, you’ll explore fabrics, costume design ideas, and the creative process behind theatre productions.
Because the production requires a large number of costumes, some previous sewing experience is preferred so students can confidently contribute to the costume-making process.
If you enjoy being creative, working with fabric, and being part of a real school production, this course will be awesome for you.
