In this fun art course, students will explore how artists turn everyday fabric into amazing artworks. Inspired by the work of Jude Rae, we will look closely at how cloth folds, wrinkles, and creates interesting shadows.
Students will experiment with tone, shading, and painting techniques to make fabric look realistic. They will practice painting folds using black and white tones and learn how artists use light and shadow to create a 3D effect.
The highlight of the course will be creating a shirt sculpture! Students will shape a real shirt to create dramatic folds, glue it into place, and paint it using a single colour scheme. They will then draw their sculpture using pencil and pen, adding shading and cross-hatching to bring it to life.
By the end of the course, students will have created paintings, drawings, and a unique shirt sculpture inspired by fabric and form.
You will need to bring an old shirt from home to create your own masterpiece!
To stay organised throughout the term, each of us will use A3 brown folders labeled with our names and home base. These folders will help us easily identify and store our work as we progress.
