In Term 3, students continue developing their skills through larger digital projects that involve planning, designing, building, testing, and improving a digital outcome.
Students who wish to work towards NCEA credits may attempt:
Develop a digital technologies outcome
(NCEA Level 1 Digital Technologies, AS 92005 - Internal, 5 credits)
In this assessment, students develop a digital outcome for a specific purpose and audience. This could include a website, digital media product, interactive system, prototype, app-style project, or another approved digital outcome.
Students will:
- identify a specific purpose and intended users
- plan the outcome using clear requirements and specifications
- choose appropriate tools, techniques, and digital technologies
- develop and refine the outcome over time
- test the outcome to check that it meets the intended purpose
- make improvements based on testing, feedback, and their own design decisions
- explain how their outcome meets the needs of its users
Students who choose not to complete the NCEA assessment are welcome to work on approved personal projects instead. These projects allow students to explore their own interests in digital technologies while continuing to develop design, problem-solving, and technical skills.
Possible projects may include:
- designing a website or digital portfolio
- creating an interactive story, game, or tool
- developing digital media such as animation, video, graphics, or sound
- building a prototype for an app, system, or product
- extending an existing programming project
- experimenting with new digital tools or technologies
All projects must be discussed and approved. Personal projects must have a clear purpose, involve meaningful digital technology development, and be achievable within the term.
The emphasis in this term is on developing purposeful digital outcomes. Students will continue to work at different levels of complexity, allowing beginners and more experienced students to progress at their own pace while developing independence, creativity, and problem-solving skills.
