Description

This course will provide students with opportunities to develop and improve their pūkenga (skills) in te reo Māori. This will involve gaining experience and competence in pānui, tuhi, whakarongo, kōrero and whakaatu.

Our course context for Term 2 is 'Ōku Wawata'. We will discuss our goals (for school and what comes next) - dreams, travel plans, career ideas, and where we see ourselves in five or ten years. We will learn how to write a CV and a letter to an employer in te reo Māori. Through this kaupapa we will explore wetereo (grammar), kupu whakarite (expressions), waiata, play kēmu, watch kiriata and more.

As part of this course you will be expected to:

  • write a short weekly journal
  • read a short book each week (or part of it) and reflect on it
  • work towards an NCEA internal (if applicable*)
  • participate in class activities (sometimes in rūmaki reo/immersion)

*This course is aimed at ākonga who are working at NCEA Levels 1-3 in te reo Māori. Have a kōrero with me (Abby) or flick me an īmera if you would like to join this akomanga but are not sure if you're working at this level yet.
