Description

In Term 4, our main focus will be on designing and developing games using Godot, a free game engine used to create both 2D and 3D games.

During the four-week course, students will learn about key aspects of game development, including:

  • planning a manageable game concept
  • creating scenes, characters, and interactive objects
  • using code to control movement, collisions, scoring, and other game mechanics
  • adding graphics, sound effects, music, and user-interface elements
  • testing, debugging, and improving a game through feedback

Beginners will be supported through guided activities, while students with more experience will have opportunities to develop a more ambitious project. Students who continue into Term 4.2 will be able to extend, polish, and share their game, or begin a new digital project.

There is also scope for other projects, with prior approval. Students may wish to:

  • develop a game using a platform they already know, such as Unity, Unreal Engine, GameMaker, GameFroot, or Scratch
  • work as part of a team, including creating 3D models, pixel art, textures, sound effects, or music for another student’s game
  • continue developing their website from Term 3
  • propose another suitable digital technology project

As most class teaching and support will focus on Godot, students wishing to pursue an alternative project must have demonstrated that they can plan their work, solve problems, and make progress independently.
