For Term 3 it is all about Whakatūtū - (Construction).
This will be a hands-on term where we will explore different forms of plant propagations, learn about Harakeke weaving, and hopefully help to construct one of the landscape design plans from Term 2.
We first look at Harakeke weaving and the role of kaitiakitanga and tikanga within this Māori art form. We will attend a workshop with The Kahu Collective and use the skills we have learnt there to run a Kaitiakitanga activity for some of our junior students. This learning will align with the two level 3 Unit standards.
We will finish off by exploring a range of plant propagation techniques. This will involve visiting a commercial nursery as well as carrying out a range of propagation activities yourself. For the assessment, you will be required to explain some of these techniques.
There are Level 1 Literacy credits available from the Plant Propagation standard.
