In 2021 and 2022, I was a student at Lincoln University and completed a Master in Environmental Policy & Management with additional courses in Wildlife Management, Animal Behaviour and Food Safety. In addition, I spent some time developing teaching resources for the Biology Teachers Association about penguins. This course will be a combination of different things I have studied and learned about, including:
- The biology of our three mainland penguin species
- The management of commercial and recreational fishing
- Aquaculture
- The global energy challenge
- Transport issues & smart city planning
- Why we waste so much food
- The pathogens that spoil our food and make us sick
- The environmental cost of farming
- New Zealand's problem with introduced species
- What NZ's political parties are proposing to make NZ a better place
Classes will be a mixture of videos, lecturing and discussions, so be keen to ask questions and share your knowledge. We will also be looking to incorporate a number of field trips, including visiting the International Antarctic Centre.
