This is a structured course that explicitly teaches close reading, essay writing and academic English. This course will support students who need some support developing their English skills. Students work together towards completing NCEA Level One in the reading, writing and speaking achievement standards. 

Students will have the opportunity to read and respond to a range of texts, make connections between texts and the student's world and create their own texts for a range of audiences and purpose.

There will be a range of Level One achievement standards on offer that will be decided in consultation with the LA.
