What does it take to encourage people to rise up for a good cause?
This course looks at those who face adversity and challenges and seeks to find what motivates them to make positive change for themselves and those around them. Students will explore what attributes changemakers have and what varying and unique contexts help create great Changemakers aka Rebels with a cause. This is done through things like reading and responding activities, discussing and responding in writing to different texts, discussion groups and responding to various resources like video, tedtalks, major moments in time and personal experiences of our changemakers.
While there is some opportunity to choose topics or take action at some points during this course, it is very much focused on developing reading, researching and writing skills required for level 6 and above and is not solely project driven.
This learning and assessment outcomes for this term in this class will focus on:
- Creating a visual text using language and visual features
- Reading unfamiliar texts and responding to them
- A research project that will be assessed on both your research process and a research report
- Take Action! What can you do to be a changemaker?
