Course Overview
This course develops visual art skills in drawing, painting, photography, design, printmaking, and sculpture. Students build practical skills and critical thinking while learning to reflect, set goals, and make independent decisions through teacher feedback and class discussions. Creativity, risk-taking, and time management are encouraged.
Course Content
Students complete long-term projects across different art forms while studying Level 1 NCEA Visual Arts, preparing for Levels 2 and 3. They learn research, idea development, and artistic techniques. A workbook records their process and inspiration from contemporary and traditional artists.
Assessment
Students usually complete one internal assessment (1.2) and 2 external assessments (1.3 workbook and 1.4 A1 art portfolio panel) at the end of the year. Up to 15 NCEA credits are available.
Appeals
Students should first discuss grades with their teacher. If needed, the Principal’s Nominee will review the assessment process.
