Ka nui te mihi aroha, te mihi miharo, te mihi maioha mo tēnei tau hōu ki a koutou katoa.  

This Te Reo Māori course will be focussed on learning for NCEA Assessments.  Where necessary Unit Standard Assessments will be used.  We will be offering Level 1, 2 and 3 in this course, however our students will need to be competent at a level of reo to be able to converse with and use in oral and written work.

Level 1 will look at using the language.  Level 2 and 3 will be higher level of thought and use.

 

Course aims / learning outcomes

  • This is a multi-level, year-long Te Reo Māori/Māori Language course.  Students will need to have a passion and a commitment to learning and using the language.
  • Students will learn sentence structures to be able to use to kōrero/talk and tuhi/write for assessments or pure enjoyment!
  • Students will learn about tauparapara, whaikōrero, karanga, mihimihi, karakia and other tikanga prominent to Māori Culture & Customs.

 

Course content

  • As it is a multi-level class, once we all meet as a Senior Te Reo class we will plan the year.

 

Assessment statements: 

To pass Level 1 the sudent will need to do two internal exams

  • 92092 Te Reo Māori - Te kōrerorero i ngā pārongo, i ngā ariā me ngā whakaaro. (1.1)  5 credits.
  • 92093  - Te whakapuaki whakaaro e pā ana ki tētahi horopaki e ora nei te reo. (1.2) 5 credits.
  • 92094 - Te whakaatu i te māramatanga ki te reo Māori me ōna mātāpono i tētahi horopaki e taunga ana. (1.3) 5 credits.
  • 92095 - Te tuhi e pā ana ki tētahi horopaki e taunga ana. (1.4) 5 credits.

Level 2 Internal Exams

  • 91284 - Whakarongo kia mōhio ki te reo o te ao torotoro. (2.1) 4 credits
  • 91285 - Kōrero kia whakamahi i te reo o te ao torotoro. (2.2) 6 credits
  • 91288 - Waihanga tuhinga auaha i te reo o te ao torotoro. (2.5) 6 credits

Level 3 Internal Exams

  • 91650 - Whakarongo kia mōhio ki te reo Māori o te ao whānui. (3.1) 4 credits
  • 91651 - Kōrero kia whakamahi i te reo Māori o te ao whānui. (3.2) 6 credits
  • 91654 - Waihanga tuhinga whai take i te reo o te ao whānui. (3.5) 6 credits

Level 2 and 3 both have two external exams that equal 12 credits if achievedcan be discussed if required.

 

Authenticity

  • Assignments that take place over time will be produced in person and/or an online system such as Google Docs. Learning Advisors will monitor student work by accessing document history.  Work will need to be completed during class time under Learning Advisor supervision. 
  • Class tests will take place under supervised test conditions within class.
  • Students may be required to sign an authenticity statement, perform certain parts of assessment tasks under close supervision, or show through interview and the existence of notes and supporting material that the work submitted by the student is genuinely his/her own work.

 

Appeal Procedures

  • Students have the right to appeal the mark they have been awarded. If a student wishes to appeal a grade, they should initially talk to the subject learning advisor about the marking process immediately after the marked assessment task is shown to them. If still dissatisfied the student should make an appointment and discuss grades with the Principal’s Nominee who will check that the correct procedures have been followed as outlined in the school and subject policies taking into account any special circumstances.
