Mathematics & Statistics
Document outlining 2024/2025 Mathematics plan.
Note that levels 4 and 5 are intended to be two year programmes.
This term we will be working on one of the brand new Level 1 standards "1.4 Demonstrate Mathematical Reasoning." This is a 5 credit external that will be assessed in an end of year exam. If you are planning to do Level 7 mathematics then this standard is essential to set you up for success next year.
This standard covers all of the maths! There could be questions covering measurement, trigonometry and number skills but probably more of a focus on algebra and graphing. So, our focus will be on algebra but we will revisit the other skills to make sure they are still "front of brain!"
Part-way through term 3 we will spend a week looking at the resource booklet for "1.3 Interpret and Apply Statistical Thinking in Context." This standard is assessed through answering a series of questions relating to the resource booklet. We can look at the resource booklet all term, but will only see the questions once we are ready to assess. Students can decide whether they are interested in working towards this assessment.
To be successful in this course you will need to turn up to every class with a maths exercise book, a pen, and a scientific calculator and be prepared to work on your maths outside of the class also!
