Mathematics & Statistics
Document outlining 2024/2025 Mathematics plan.
Note that levels 4 and 5 are intended to be two year programmes.
In this Level 2 NCEA Mathematics course, we’ll explore key mathematical concepts that build on your previous knowledge and prepare you for real-world applications and future studies.
Pākoki | Trigonometry (Internal, 3 Credits)
Pākoki extends your understanding of right-angled triangles to include non-right-angled triangles. You’ll master new methods and apply them to solve a variety of geometric problems, including:
- Calculating the length of an arc of a circle.
- Finding the area of a sector of a circle.
- Using the sine rule and cosine rule to solve triangles.
- Determining the area of any triangle.
Tūponotanga | Probability Concepts (External, 4 Credits)
Tūponotanga deepens your probability knowledge, enabling you to analyze and interpret situations involving uncertainty. You’ll explore:
- Risk and relative risk.
- The normal distribution and its applications.
- Experimental distributions and relative frequencies.
- Organising data using two-way tables and probability trees.
This course combines hands-on problem-solving with real-world scenarios, giving you tools to think critically, make predictions, and explore mathematical relationships in depth. Ready to take the next step in your mathematical journey?
