Document outlining 2024/2025 Mathematics plan.

Note that levels 4 and 5 are intended to be two year programmes.

Description

Algebra lets us take messy, real-world situations and turn them into clear equations we can work with. Instead of hit-and-miss techniques like trial and error, algebra gives us tools to find exact answers.

Algebra also develops your critical thinking skills to help you to think logically and work efficiently.

It's the real deal!

Mathematics plays a key role in describing and working with the world around us - from understanding patterns in nature, to calculating the cost of groceries, or designing computer games. Algebra is the key that unlocks these equations and helps us make sense of complex problems.

And, it's not as hard as you think!

One way to understand algebra is to picture a balance scale. Each side of the equation is like one side of the scale. As long as you do the same thing to both sides (adding, subtracting, multiplying, or dividing) the scale stays balanced. This simple idea is the foundation of solving equations in algebra.

All students will require:

  • A maths graph paper exercise book for this class i.e. a 1J5 or 1E8
  • A ruler
  • Pens or pencils
