Mathematics & Statistics
Document outlining 2024/2025 Mathematics plan.
Note that levels 4 and 5 are intended to be two year programmes.
In this course, you will build a strong understanding of how numbers work and why they matter. You’ll learn to work confidently with whole numbers, fractions, decimals, percentages, integers, powers, and roots, and to see how these different types of numbers connect to each other.
You will practise choosing efficient methods, estimating answers, and checking whether results make sense. The focus is on understanding why number rules work, not just memorising steps. These skills will support your learning in algebra, statistics, and other areas of mathematics.
You will also use number skills to solve real-world problems, such as comparing quantities, interpreting financial information, and making calculations for everyday situations. This includes working with ratios, proportions, and percentages in practical contexts. These skills are also an important part of the Numeracy corequisite.
By the end of this course, you will have stronger number sense and greater confidence using mathematics both at school and in everyday life.
This course is about more than just maths. It’s about learning to think critically and creatively, ask bold questions, and find answers in unexpected places. Let’s explore the possibilities of maths together!
