Mathematics & Statistics
Document outlining 2024/2025 Mathematics plan.
Note that levels 4 and 5 are intended to be two year programmes.
This course is restricted to Year 12 and 13 students and some Year 11 students with permission. It's purpose is to support students to pass the numeracy co-requisite assessment, which is mandatory to gain any NCEA qualification. It is not designed to support a pathway into further study in Mathematics.
Most students will be working towards sitting the first assessment opportunity at the end of May (Term 2). There will be an additional assessment opportunity in September (Term 3) for those who wish to spend more time preparing or are previously unsuccessful.
Depending on where students are at, obtaining Numeracy may be a two year process.
The course will run as a mix of teacher-led instruction and self-directed learning. It is designed to help build confidence and understanding with essential concepts and problem solving, and will be taught in context as much as possible. We will be covering the following concepts/topics over Term 1 and Term 2:
- Number
- Measurement
- Location and Navigation
- Statistics and Data
- Probability
- Transformation
- Geometry
- Mathematical relationships
